URBAN FANTASY / SCIENCE FICTION

Web World           by Gerald Reich                     Copyright © 2012 by Gerald Reich

Ytharis Bimalik is the world champion at riding the "web", those strange invisible lines of power that have appeared at various spots on the face of the planet. She creates a fuss announcing her retirement from the sport, primarily with her unemployed brother, Rolio, which puts his self-appointed career as "brother of the champion" in jeopardy.

After retirement, she is invited to a women's group to talk about opportunities for young women in sport and industry. Other than that, she really has no plans for the future.

They go see Professor Hritora Manistor at Western Saavasaad University and she informs them of the growing problem: the web itself is dangerous and it's source is unknown. Ytharis had heard this sort of thing before, but regular checkups proved she had no nasty side affects from the web and she was around it more than most.

The Professor shows her proof of the web's effects and she joins forces with the billionaire and the professor to find not a cure for the side-effects but for the source of the web.

Why is it there to begin with? And why is it growing at an alarming rate?
